Confusing results of low carbohydrate experiment

Hugo Turner stands shirtless holding a block of cheese. Ross Turner stands shirtless holding dry spaghetti.

Mark was surprised by the results of this experiment hoping that it was false misinformation. I find this to be an excellent article to comment on and disclose what has happened and why everyone had a wrong conclusion drawn from it.

Two brothers, identical twins (as that has any influence on the result since it does not matter at all), used two slightly different nutritional approaches and compared the results.
One of them had more carbohydrates in its food than the other, and the result surprised them.
Everyone has expected that the low carbohydrate diet will create a leaner body but the opposite has happened, why?

Here is the article

https://nypost.com/2025/02/08/health/twins-tried-different-diets-for-12-weeks-one-had-more-energy/

“For the experiment, the twins ate three meals and two snacks per day from a food delivery service, Frive, plus 350-calorie protein shakes. Their daily intake totaled about 3,500 calories”
Hugo went low-carb, adding high-fat foods like olive oil, butter, nuts, eggs, and avocado to his Frive meal plan. Meanwhile, Ross stuck to a more “balanced” plan, loading up on carbs like pasta and rice and avoiding fats.
The Turners also followed similar workouts — cardio and strength training with home gym equipment — and rested every three days. Their progress was monitored by sports scientists at the University of Loughborough.
After 12 weeks on the high-carb diet, Ross gained 2.2 pounds of muscle, lost 2 pounds of fat, improved his cholesterol levels, and reduced his internal visceral fat from 11.5% to 11.1%.
Hugo gained 6.6 pounds, lost just 0.6 pounds of fat, saw no change in his cholesterol, and increased his visceral fat from 11.4% to 12.6% after following the high-fat diet.

Right away a lie is added to the result claiming that a dangerous visceral fat was stored in Hugo’s body, fat that is stored around internal organs, linked to chronic diseases like heart disease and type 2 diabetes. This is utter misinformation and lies in the way it is presented.

“The brothers, both already strong and fit before the experiment, also tested their physical ability after 12 weeks. While both saw nearly identical results in strength tests, Hugo struggled with cardiovascular fitness and endurance following the high-fat diet”, the article concludes.

What has happened, and why did Hugo feel more difficulty and gain weight on the low-carb diet, while his brother Ross lost weight, felt stronger, and did not accumulate the “dangerous “ visceral fat?

Adipose tissue is part of the connective tissue under the skin and between organs and muscles

For one, both brothers ate carbohydrates. It is old knowledge that the worst type of diet as far as weight gain is concerned is having animal fat with carbohydrates in the same meal.
When we eat a lot of carbs with animal fat, the blood’s sugar rises, insulin is released and cells receive glucose for energy production. Since the energy production from glucose is much faster than from fat, the sugar will provide energy and the received fat will be stored as an energy supply when energy is needed and glucose is not available.
Since they ate often, the glucose was always available and the fat was accumulating in the adipose tissue of the body. Hugo, who was eating more fat was gaining fat deposits and became heavier.
By eating less fat, Ross was utilizing the glucose and since the glucose provides less than half of the calories of animal fat, Ross was not receiving enough calories although he was eating more carbohydrates and his body had to supplement energy by utilizing his fat. This is why he felt hungry and had chocolate on occasion and still feeling hungry.
Since Hugo had several pounds more to carry, it is to be expected that he would feel more tired and sluggish. Try to strap a 5-pound weight on your hip and do cardio. You will definitely feel it.

The accumulated visceral fat is the normal fat deposit the body uses when it needs energy and we are not eating. This is the most common place where fat accumulates and has nothing to do with health issues as suggested by the article.
If the two brothers would have continued exercising without eating, Hugo would have had the advantage. They were eating way too frequently maintaining their energy level with a steady supply of glucose, and not giving the opportunity for the fat to be used in cellular energy production.
There is nothing surprising in this experiment. If you eat too often and provide carbs, this is what is going to happen. Since carbohydrates contain less than half of calories than fat, when too many carbs are consumed, what the body does not use for immediate energy production will be transformed into fat but the amount of fat will be low because of the low caloric count.

This experiment has shown that if you want to use more fat in your food, you have to eat a lesser number of meals, and no snacking in between.
Occasionally I receive an email asking “Why am I gaining weight on the SHP?”. Now you have your answer. Everyone who follows the protocol correctly is losing the extra weight they carry. If the opposite is happening to you, you are doing something wrong, and most likely, snacking or carbs are involved.

If you want to use carbs and exercise, you have to have more meals and snacks and do not use fat. Your body will work ok and you can easily control your weight. As soon as you add fat to your diet and do not decrease the number of meals you take, you will gain fat deposits and increase your weight. Because your cells will be using glucose for energy, triglycerides will not be used so your blood will have more triglycerides and will be depositing them into the adipose tissue. Since cholesterol is used to transport triglycerides, the cholesterol levels will be higher.
There is no danger of cholesterol being deposited in blood vessels as doctors of the soyence of madsin suggest, nor is the fat deposited in dangerous places. That is all just a soyentific hogwash.

I love ripping the soyence apart. I wish more people woke up to this scientific fraud.

Love and light to us all.
