CAN FRUCTOSE INCREASE YOUR APPETITE?

fruit pile

I have always loved sweets and in particular, moist, pasty chocolates. In the matter of fact, no matter how hard is the chocolate and how big it is, if it is placed in front of me I will slowly work on it until the chocolate is there no more.
I do not like to bite into it but rather bite of a small piece and then melt it in my mouth. Usually, my wife is done with the whole chocolate while I am still enjoying the first bite.

While growing up, I did not have the opportunity to have my favourite sweets often and I did not even think about them until they were actually there in front of me. Only lately, the last 10 years or so is when I am craving the chocolate more than ever. This made me investigate why is this happening.

The same as with any other project I had, I started with the observation and then I added the elimination process to identify the culprit of my cravings.

As my diet has become very simple, this was not a strenuous or complicated task.

Since the only daily food with a content of some sugar (fructose) were the bananas, I decided to make an experiment to see if the fructose is triggering the craving for sweets that I have daily.

Just to clarify, I do not have chocolate daily but if it is available in my house, I would not resist it.

As you know, sweet ripe bananas are a part of my daily energy shake which other than the bananas, contain raw eggs, natural plain yogurt, and a coconut oil.

For this experiment, I started to make my daily breakfast shakes with all of the ingredients minus the bananas.

Whenever I talk about the carbohydrates, I distinguish the natural, raw carbohydrates from the cooked and processed once which I call the dietary carbohydrates because they can be easily absorbed into our blood.

Since the bananas in the breakfast shake are raw, they do not provide our body with the dietary carbohydrates and their purpose is to add to the taste and the volume of the shake.

Because I would add 5-6 bananas in my shake, I had more than a liter of the shake which would fill my stomach and satisfy the craving for a food.

Now, without those bananas, I had reduced the food volume quite a bit and I was wondering if that will make me want to eat more.

To my surprise, this did not happen. Actually, the contrary had happened.
Usually,, after having my banana shake, I would still have craving for more bananas and often would eat 2 or 3 bananas more after I had my shake.

Now, when the bananas were absent from the shake, I had no urge to go and eat some bananas after the shake. Actually, I did not mind having less of the food in my stomach at all.
My stomach felt lighter and without the usual pressure of a full stomach.

Since the caloric nutrients of the shake were the eggs, the yogurt and the coconut oil, and they were still present in the same amount, I was not hungry and felt really good. The only big difference was that my craving for sweets went down.

As you have noticed, I did not say that the craving has disappeared because the thought of the chocolate came to my mind at night when I would have it while watching a movie, but there was no urge to have it.
This was surprising.

After several days of my experiment, I noticed that my weight is going down and I can easily control it by simply adding or reducing the number of eggs and yogurt I have in the shake, and I can have some more meat for lunch if I want, without gaining weight.

I had done an experiment where I ate nothing but sweet, ripe and raw bananas and I was losing the weight rapidly. This is how I know that the raw bananas do not provide any energy butt when mixed with energy loaded meal, it seems that we start to absorb more calories.

The only explanation that I have for this is that the presence of sweet taste stimulates the body to provide more digestive enzymes. Because of this, the food is digested better and more calories become absorbed but also our digestion is using energy and we feel hungrier and the desire comes to eat more.

At the same time, the sweet taste is stimulating us to go and to look for more of the sweet food. Usually, we do not stop on fruits but continue with other not that good choices which may include roasted nuts, chocolate, and dried fruits.

As I start eating the shake without the bananas in it, I start to eat less and I have less craving for sweets.
This was a very interesting finding.

There is no problem eating the banana shake the way it is designed but if you are unable to lose weight the way you would like because you have cravings for sweets or to nibble on other foods, ditch the bananas from the shake and you will see how easily you will achieve your goal.

As the frequencies are rising, our DNA is adjusting which means that our genetic expression is making an alteration in the way our cells respond.
Do not get surprised if you notice that your taste-buds are changing and you no longer find satisfaction in some of the foods that you used to love.

  1. Excellent.
These are the kind of observations and experiments we should all be running. Because as good as it is with Darko telling us – there is nothing like finding truth for ourselves, especially in our own bodies.
I wonder if Darko could even eat a banana like the ones we get in America?
Even the very best organic bananas smell horrible on the outside and not much better inside. I really have no idea how old any produce at store is and how they have stored it or treated it. Since organic only applies to the growing process… (I think Darko gets his bananas from his neighbor’s farm!)
Lately, I use what fruit is in season in my shake.
Average America now consumes more than 300 lbs of sugar a year. In 1898, average consumed was 7 pounds per year.
We who follow Darko whether to the max or in a fashion, would have to be the elite of America, far as diet and sugar consumption is concerned. So if you dine Darko style take a moment to pat yourself on the back. “Good job.”

      1. Upload that photo to your Dark-Wordpress gallery.. I believe that photo has a URL. Now post that URL into Comment.

  2. How many eggs do you put in your shake? I’ve upped my quantity to 3 eggs but still not gaining weight.
“Usually, we do not stop on fruits but continue with other not that good choices which may include roasted nuts, chocolate, and dried fruits.”
This is what I’ve been doing after my shake, I reach for nuts, chocolate and dates.

      1. What i know is that the key to gain weight is eating as much as possible fatty foods.
I think is really hard to gain weight with 0%carbs eatings.
Cuz when i eat only fatty foods really im never hungry.
With 6eggs and small piece of meats i can do very fine with energy levels.
But i appreciate really to much if someone has succeeded to gain a lot of weights while following this protocol.
For example let explain yours friend Tomas how he has succeeded?

  3. Great article. I do nit like eggs and neither does my body. I akso prefer to drink Hemp Milk than Dairy. Can you provide a substitute for the Morning Shake?

    1. Diana any raw animal product will do just fin.
The banana shake is a compromise by adding the fruit as a filler and to improve the taste.
The nourishment comes from the eggs, the yogurt and the coconut oil.
One can go straight for a carpaccio or a Tartar steak love.

  4. darko the bananas i use in my own shakes that i buy here in the u/k from my local quality supermarket are – UNLIKE markb’s bananas – organic and very delicious tasting and also smell delicious on the inside and outside too!…
they are fairtrade organic and originate from dominican republic…darko, i am just wondering if your bananas are very sweet and that is contributing to your hunger for more foods afterwards?…mine are definitely NOT sweet and after i finish my mid – late morning shake i never get the slightest hunger pang…in fact i can easily go 6 1/2 hours, WITHOUT the slightest desire to snack, until i eat my ONLY other meal of the day: my dinner…
    love and light brother

    1. Brian, the fructose in banana intensifies as the banana gets older. I use different kind of bananas and my preferred one is what in Venezuela they call topocho. People use it why it is still green and they cook it but when it is ripe they feed it to the pigs or throw it away since it is not hat sweet.
I am eating this shake for 15 years but I have noticed that my body is changing now and it is responding to the food differently, I even get a slight acidic feeling after having the shake sometimes. This does not happen if I do not ad the bananas in my shake.

  5. PS: to my above post…i should add that after my banana shake i always drink a mug of hot organic cocao – made only with hot water – that has 10 grams of grassfed butter and 15 ml of c8 mct oil blended into it…maybe that contributes to me feeling full for so long?…

  6. I would like to know if frozen bananas have much more available sugar. I have been using two frozen bananas with six eggs and some coconut oil every morning. I don’t get hungary until late afternoon and don’t have a weight problem. But thawed frozen bananas don’t appear to have any cell structure. It is just brown mush. Do frozen fruits in general have more available sugar.
Thanks Dario. I really really appreciate your work.

    1. Tony, bananas like every other fruit contain protective enzymes and proteins so that the animals do not eat then until their see are ready to sprout. Then then those toxins are gradually replaced with fructose to entice the animals to eat them. Longer you wait, more fructose becomes available until the fermentation kicks in. Still we are talking about a sugar that you can absorb only a small amount of if you do not consume dietary glucose (cooked and processed carbohydrates).
The reason why people are not hungry after they had the shake is the powerful energy content brought by the saturated fats in the eggs, the coconut oil and the yogurt. The bananas are just a flavour enhancing tool and they give the shake more boy.
Keeping bananas in the fridge does not break the cellulose and there is no danger of the cellulose to burst brother.

  7. Dr Darko, when you talk about gaining weight do you mean fat weight or muscle weight? It seems to me that on the Protocol one should be able to gain muscle weight with the proper exercise. The only weight we should be losing is the fat, which is a good thing. Your thoughts on the type and quantity of food, and type of exercise for muscle gain, please. I’m a 64 year old male, if that makes a difference. Thanks so much.

    1. Tayo this is a good topic for a blog. In a few words, the boy does not support what it does not need. It will not grow and feed big muscles if there is no need for them.
The proper diet will bring all of the necessary nutrients so that the body can create what is necessary and eliminate what it does not need.
If you want to gain a muscle mass, you have to give those muscles something to do. You have to create the need for them to get bigger.
      Love and light

      1. Thank you Dr Darko, a blog on this topic would be beneficial especially as it relates to preventing and even reversing Sarcopenia.

  8. Darko, you’re not concerned by the fact that modern bananas are one of the most overly hybridized fruits on the planet? They can’t even reproduce on their own due to lack of seeds being bred out of them. They’re also heavily sprayed with chemicals to protect against fungus. Wild bananas are extremely small and contain lots of seeds…just a thought..
